Any public sector office ending up this way has most likely no clue and no experience to know what they'll need to do next. New funds will have to come from existing budget, a complete new IT structure will have to be built, staff recruited from scratch or a costly service bought from an outside company. Add whatever 'ho, since we finally get some people thinking of IT, why not get <insert-unrelated-IT-fad-here> too?

White elephants can't grow any faster. And I know how this will likely end up

And more: Gov. Jerry Brown is sick of all the freeloaders in California complaining about his gas tax hike. Those freeloaders are the people who have jobs and pay the taxes he keeps raising.

Whistleblower alleges voter fraud extends into Dallas County elections office

Quote:
DALLAS – The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office has secret audio recordings in which a campaign worker claims he pays off someone inside the county elections to find out when mail-in ballots get sent out.

Sidney Williams, 33, made the audio recordings of Jose Barrientos. Williams shared the audio with the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and WFAA.

Barrientos told WFAA that the recordings are just “guy talk.” He said he has not done anything illegal.

"I don't do that stuff. I know that looks bad me and Sidney talking s*** or trash. That looks bad. And I know it does but that's just talk,” Barrientos told WFAA.

Quote:
Williams: What do we do, chase the mailman or how does that work?

Barrientos: Your homeboy that's at the elections office. He tells you when the f*****g ZIP codes are dropping. He'll tell you like 75221 fixing to hit. Today. They're going out.

Williams: He tells you that?

Barrientos: He's not supposed to but yeah. But then you've got to drop a hundred or two or three. Whatever it is. He can't do it for free.

"He goes in there. He speaks to this county employee. The county employee tips him off by ZIP code, lets him know which precincts are dropping," explained Williams. "Either he's stealing them from the mailbox, yanking them from a little old lady who probably has them, says he's going to assist her in a specific way for a specific candidate."

Identifying a person named “Jose Rodriguez,” who has signed dozens, perhaps hundreds of mail-in ballots, is the biggest mystery in Dallas County politics right now.

How easy is it to steal a ballot in Dallas County, WFAA asked Williams.

“Easy,” he responded.

This is becoming one of the biggest voter fraud investigations underway in Texas.

Guy with no political connections gets arrested for sexting with a cop he thinks is a teenager. Pleads guilty. Gets 20 years in prison, but prosecutors demanded a life sentence.

Theresa May wants to create a government-regulated and controlled internet. Good fucking luck with that, Prime Minister.

Direct quote from Tory manifesto: "Some people say that it is not for government to regulate when it comes to technology and the internet. We disagree."

Is that for real? Is that source reliable? It sounds lizard-people-y.

Guy with political connections gets arrested for sexting with an actual teenager. Pleads guilty. Likely will not face prison time.

Quote:
{guy with no connections} pleaded guilty to enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity and attempting to send obscene material to a minor.
...
But prosecutors pushed back and requested {guy} be sentenced to life in prison.

“It is particularly galling that he was himself an armed guard at the single most important residence in our constitutional republic, yet he repeatedly used that guard booth to take photos of his penis and send them to underage girls,” they wrote.
...
Following an investigation, detectives learned {guy} had sent sexually indecent messages and photos of himself to underage girls in Florida, Texas, and Missouri, the news station reported.

Quote:
The plea agreement ended a federal investigation into a series of sexually explicit pictures and messages that {connected guy} sent last year to a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina.

so: one girl vs multiple girls; sexting from home vs. sexting from a public position while on the job....yeah, pretty much identical.

brazil's got quite a fucking disastertrain going on there but if you've been watching the chavists in venezuela, it's fuckin crazier

it's amazing how long you can hatefuck a country to death sometimes before the people rise up in active protest. in venezuela's case it is because the chavists were supplied with nearly all the guns in order to uphold the regime even as the availablility of even basic goods and enough food to survive declined to nearly nothing

Venezuela is a sad situation indeed. The Chavist started up meaning well, using oil money to get basic staple food to the poorest. They set a system up that initially was working fine, but when things turned sour, instead of adaptating, they turned ideologists and painted themselves in a corner which led to the corruption of a part of the chavist elite and in turn, the current situation. Maduro being a complete ass does not mean the opposition party is all prim and proper.

north carolina lost another gerrymandering case. the case involved 2 districts; one was turned down unanimously, the other by 5 to 3 (gorsuch wasn't involved in this decision):
Quote:
Justices Clarence Thomas, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen G. Breyer and Sonia Sotomayor joined Justice Kagan’s majority opinion.
...an interesting grouping.

legal opinion is that this decision will open the door for a lot more suits opposing gerrymandered districts....would be wonderful if this was the first gleam of light from the end of the tunnel.
